Alexandre Marc was the lead author of Pathways for Peace a report prepared for the  international community by the  World Bank and the UN. The report was launched  by the secretary General of the UN and the President of the World Bank on September 21, 2017 during the General Assembly of the UN.

The report makes the  case for prevention of violent conflict and fragility and calls on development actors to scale up its effort to address the new wave of conflict and violence that affects the world in the 21 st century.

The report was prepared by an integrated team of specialist from the world Bank and the UN and involved the contribution of close to 200 experts working on conflict and peace-building across academia, think tank, civil society, the private sector and Governments and coming from five continents.

 

the reports discusses how the competition between big powers and also among smaller regional powers that has increased dramatically over the last decade impacts fragile states.  It looks at Russia's role in trying to disrupt  relations between traditional powers such as France and the UK in Africa, China ambitious infrastructure programs and cooperation with a number of fragile state trying to reduce the influence of western countries and how this affects their stability of and prospect for sustainable development.

The report has been prepared to inform the work of the World Bank in the West Africa Region. It critically examines the key drivers of conflict and violence , and the way in which they impact the countries of the subregion. It also identifies key lessons  in the dynamics of resilience in the face of political violence  and civil war  drawn from Cote d"Ivoire, Liberia and Sierra Leone, that can be useful  for countries around the world  in similar situations.

In the 2022 edition the section titled UN leadership in crisis  discusses  what the present multilateral crisis means for UN leadership. The  section calls for the UN to anchor its leadership in the principles of the UN charter, essentially human rights norms and respect for the rule of law. It needs to maintain open dialogue between Nations and organisations to ensure cohesiveness in the multilateral system. It also need to leverage an increasingly fragmented multilateral system.

The book explores  how relations between social groups and institutions determine the strength and weakness of a society and  in particular how it influence fragile situations. Drawing on cases  study of Yemen, the Central African Republic,  Haiti, Liberia and Aceh, the book provides a framework for understanding and healing teh social divides that often get in the way of building capable institutions and exiting from fragility.

Violence in the city, understanding and supporting Community Responses to Urban Violence is the outcome of a research on how communities cope with violence in poor urban centers. The study has looked in particular at key capacities such as generate and maintain trust, heal from past Trauma, link community efforts to initiatives  at different levels of governments and society, exert social control over violent and anti social behavior and ensure inclusion. The study was based on teh result of surveys carried out in Dili, Timor-Leste; Fortaleza, Brazil, Johannesburg, South Africa; Nairobi in Kenya and Cite Soleil in Haiti.

Delivering Services in Multicultural Societies reviews recent approaches to recognizing cultural diversity when delivering basic services.  It discusses how supporting cultural diversity can help achieve social inclusion and social cohesion. It then considers the debate on multiculturalism from diverse perspectives and discusses how supporting cultural diversity can help achieve social inclusion and social cohesion
